DaNite Sign Company has been around more than four decades
and is a national and local leader in interior and exterior sign design. They also
offer fabrication, installation and service on signage. DaNite was founded in
1954 and overtime they built a strong and steady central Ohio- based company
with a solid reputation. Tim McCord, the
current owner, bought the company because he loves the sign business and because
of its brand recognition in the industry.
They currently employ 43 full time employees, 2 of which are
nephews from each side of Tim’s family. His 4 kids also have worked part-time
while in college, so it has that true family business feel. They have developed key relationships with
other sign companies and installers that allows them to take on larger projects
and meet tight deadlines. While most of
their work is in central Ohio, their reputation has reached around the country
and the world. They have worked on
projects as large as the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State to car dealers,
hospitals and hotels.
One of the biggest challenges their company faces is workers
compensation and compliance with numerous government regulations. The reason they were first attracted to NFIB
was the group rating program and the passion NFIB has for helping small
businesses. Tim McCord is very active
with NFIB and attends the Area Action Council meetings in the central Ohio
region. He sees the lunches as opportunities to discuss important issues that
impact small business owners and get to speak face-to-face with legislators.
Tim finds the best part about being a small business owner
is the impact their company has on people across the board. He wants to
challenge people to achieve and use their full potential. He offers this advice
for people considering starting their own company, before you get started, know
why you’re doing it and to make sure it’s your passion.
