Legislative Breakfast Brings Small Business Owners to Augusta

Date: February 19, 2014

Drug testing, unemployment insurance, and several other topics generated lively discussions at last week’s annual NFIB Legislative Breakfast.

Ashley Fingarson, NFIB tax lobbyist in the U.S. Senate, briefed attendees on the latest news regarding federal tax reform discussions.  She mentioned a key concern is that these discussions are centered on corporate income tax policy, yet most small businesses are affected by individual income tax policy.

Special guests from the Governor’s Office included Kathleen Newman and John Butera.  Legislative guests included Sen. Brian Langley, Sen. André Cushing, Rep. Tom Winsor, Rep. Paul Bennett, Rep. Stacey Guerin, and Rep. Ellie Espling.  Also attending was Mike Allen, associate commissioner for tax policy at Maine Revenue Services.
