NFIB/CA Releases Statement Supporting Assembly Bills 12 and 1230

Date: August 17, 2015

Tom Scott,
NFIB/CA State Director issued the following statement today in support of
Assembly Bill 12 (Cooley) and Assembly Bill 1230 (Gomez). Both bills are being
heard today in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“NFIB/CA is pleased to support Assembly Bill 12, which would require
all agencies do a full review of their regulations to see if they are outdated,
too costly, or overlap with other rules. This kind of full scale review has not
happened in decades and will make it easier for small businesses to know which
regulations they need to comply with. We commend Assemblyman Cooley for
proposing this policy which will help small employers to focus on running their
businesses, not tracking regulations.”

“We are also pleased to support Assembly Bill 1230, which would enact
the California Americans with Disabilities Act Small Business Compliance Financing
Authority Act. This would establish a self-sustaining program to provide loans
to assist small businesses in financing the costs of projects that alter or
retrofit existing small business facilities to comply with the federal
Americans with Disabilities Act,” said Scott. “Small business owners want to
comply with the law, and also increase patronage of their businesses, but often
lack the financial means necessary to meet ADA requirements. This measure goes
a long way toward enabling them to meet that objective, and to helping
businesses avoid costly lawsuits.”
