Reps. Cuellar, Gonzales Join NFIB Texas Members for Virtual Fly-In

Date: June 25, 2021

U.S. Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-28th District) and Tony Gonzales (R-23rd District) met this week with small business owners from across the state as part of NFIB’s Virtual Fly-In.

Ordinarily, NFIB members gather in Washington, D.C., each summer to learn more about the issues affecting America’s small businesses and meet with lawmakers and their staffs on Capitol Hill, but because of concerns over the pandemic, this year’s event was held online.

The congressmen spoke with NFIB members and listened to their concerns about a host of critical issues including recovering economically from the COVID-19 pandemic, capital gains taxes, and infrastructure.

“As a former small business owner, I understand how important these institutions are to our local, state, and federal economies,” Congressman Cuellar said. “If we want to recover from the pandemic, we must continue to protect small businesses and the jobs they create. In Congress, I am proud to be a voice for hard-working American families across my district. NFIB, thank you for your advocacy, and hopefully, the next time we do this, it will be in person.”

Representative Gonzales said, “I don’t think there’s enough of these types of discussions where you have Republicans and Democrats just try to solve problems, and small business owners are at the heart of that.”

NFIB State Director Annie Spilman said, “We know the Congressmen have a lot of their plates, so we’re thankful they could take the time to meet virtually with our members and talk about some of the issues affecting their ability to own, operate, and grow their small businesses.”
