NFIB Releases PA State Lawmakers' Small Business Voting Record

Date: September 28, 2018

NFIB Voting Record keeps track of key small business votes during legislative session

HARRISBURG, Sept. 27, 2018 – NFIB, Pennsylvania’s leading small business advocacy organization, released its 2017-18 legislative Voting Record today. The Voting Record identifies top issues for Pennsylvania small business owners, tracks the votes of every legislator, and calculates a score on a scale of 100-percent. The Voting Record is a tool that allows small-business owners and small-business supporters to cut through the political rhetoric, so they can easily understand which Harrisburg lawmakers truly support Pennsylvania’s small businesses by analyzing their actual votes. NFIB’s Pennsylvania State Voting Record is also a key component in NFIB’s decision to endorse incumbent legislators.

“Small business owners pay close attention to issues that affect them in the state Capitol, from tax and regulatory reform bills to promoting government transparency and accountability,” said Rebecca Oyler, NFIB’s Pennsylvania Legislative Director. “This legislative session included votes on big issues, like state pension reform, the state tax code, and performance-based budgeting.”

“But it’s also important to recognize that other issues, though their impact may be less direct, affect the state’s overall business climate and ultimately small businesses’ ability to compete and be successful. That’s why NFIB’s voting record includes votes that, for example, would reduce workers’ compensation rates by using national drug prescribing standards and efforts to rein in lawsuit abuse.

The Voting Record examines ten key votes in the State House and Senate selected from the more than two hundred pieces of legislation monitored by NFIB.

There were 42 state lawmakers who scored 100% by voting with NFIB on every critical vote. These 17 state Senate and 25 state House members were presented with NFIB’s coveted Guardian of Small Business statue at a recent ceremony.
