Governor Mills wants to hear from you!
Join NFIB and fellow small business owners on
March 9, 2022 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
As a small business and job creator in your town, your voice gets the attention of lawmakers. Don’t miss the opportunity to join fellow NFIB members as we bring the small business viewpoint to Governor Janet Mills, virtually! Will you add your voice.
You are recovering from the pandemic, facing higher unemployment taxes, wage hikes, and higher healthcare premiums. Governor Mills needs to hear about these mounting pressures so that as the legislature tries to push forward policies that harm small business, she knows the face and story of job creators impacted – yours. NFIB is here to partner with you to make it easy for you to share your story.
There is no cost to attend the event.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED
Following the conversation with Governor Mills, continue the discussion and learn how you can take action with your NFIB in Maine Team on:
- Health insurance costs
Legislators are debating whether to reject a 2.85% tax on health insurance premiums. Also, they are looking at what new or expanded benefits to mandate that will increase insurance costs.
- Overtime pay and higher labor costs
Legislation to significantly increase overtime costs has received majority support in the labor committee.
- Paid family and Medical Leave
Advocates are pushing for legislation that will subject employers to new employment taxes and make workers eligible for up to xx weeks of leave (in addition to the existing earned paid leave law).
- Electric Utility Regulation
Proposals and a push for hostile conversion of investor-owned power companies (e.g., CMP) into a consumer cooperative are generating high voltage political sparks.
- State budget surplus
Ideas for what the state will do are moving into public hearing and committee deliberation stages.
