COVID-19 Workers' Comp Claims 'a Very Ripe Policy Question'

Date: September 02, 2020

NFIB State Executive Director Bill Herrle says the issue of workers’ compensation claims related to COVID-19 is “a very ripe policy question” that should be addressed by the legislature or Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Speaking with the News Service of Florida, Herrle said private businesses should be held to a different standard than public agencies when it comes to workers’ comp benefits.

“We think there is a very ripe policy question on the responsibilities of the private sector versus the public sector, who clearly bears a higher responsibility for the front-line workers,” Herrle said.

NFIB is among the Florida business organizations calling for state officials to address liability issues related to the pandemic.

NFIB State Legislative Director Tim Nungesser said the issue will be one of NFIB’s top priorities when lawmakers return to Tallahassee in November to begin holding hearings on bills to be heard in next year’s session of the state legislature.
