WATCH: Blackburn, Bredesen Discuss Small Business Issues at Forum

Date: August 16, 2018

U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn and former Gov. Phil Bredesen discussed taxes, regulations, and other issues on Wednesday at a U.S. Senate candidate forum hosted by NFIB, the Tennessee Business Roundtable and the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry. NewsChannel5’s Ben Hall moderated the discussion.

Hall interviewed each candidate separately before a large crowd at Swang Business Center on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

In response to a question, Blackburn, the Republican nominee, said Congress needs to protect small businesses from excessive regulation by reining in federal agencies that issue burdensome rules on their own.

Bredesen, the Democratic nominee, agreed, saying that he believes “we are becoming too much of an administrative state.”

On the issue of taxes, Blackburn told Hall she believes last year’s historic federal tax cuts are helping Tennessee’s small businesses.

Bredesen, however, said he doesn’t think the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act went far enough with regard to actual tax reform.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6. The deadline to register is Oct. 9. Early voting is Oct. 17 to Nov. 1.
