Sales-Tax Holiday a Shot in the Arm for Mississippi’s Small Businesses

Date: July 26, 2018

State Director Ron Aldridge says this weekend’s sales-tax holiday on clothing, footwear, and accessories will be a shot in the arm for many small businesses.

“When you combine the sales-tax holiday with the usual back-to-school deals, and our loyal football fans wanting to be ready to cheer wearing their newest team logo apparel, you really put people in the mood to shop,” Aldridge said.

“Even if you don’t need clothes or shoes, you can save a lot of money by shopping during the sales-tax holiday,” Aldridge said. “The sales-tax holiday can really help you stretch a dollar, with retailers of other goods joining in the weekend with greatly reduced pricing.”

NFIB is asking shoppers to buy at least some of their clothing, footwear, and other items at small, locally-owned businesses,  Aldridge said.

“You can find some great deals and unique merchandise when you shop small,” he said. “Small businesses usually provide more personalized service and greater product expertise. Plus, when you support local retailers, you support the businesses that support local charities and schools and create jobs and help keep more of your money turning over in your community.”
