DENVER, April 10, 2019—The following statement was issued by Tony Gagliardi, NFIB Colorado state director, following the Senate Finance Committee’s adoption of amendments on Senate Bill 188.

“The fact this bill has gone through 20 different re-writes speaks volumes about its unworkability, and with the latest financial data contained in studies produced — indicating cost and utilization are greatly under-estimated — the bill should never have been passed.

“Let’s not discuss the fact that premiums paid by employees and employers would have to triple within a few years of operations.

“Senate Bill 188 will not prevent bad things from happening — no law ever will — but 73 percent of small-business owners already offer paid leave—leave tailored for the benefit of both employee and employer. Herding everyone into one giant, state-run cattle pen will be needlessly costly and cannot be as efficient as it is now.”
