Colorado Small Businesses Remain Opposed to Sales Tax on Services

Date: December 22, 2021

NFIB’s annual poll of its state members included results on three other ballot questions

DENVER, Dec. 22, 2021—Poll results released today on the responses NFIB-member, Colorado small-business owners gave their association showed near-unanimity on one issue and firm views on the three others.

As it does every year, NFIB, the nation’s and Colorado’s leading small-business association, polls its members on state and federal issues affecting their right to own, operate, and grow their businesses. Results from the annual polls help center NFIB’s lobbying positions in Denver and in Washington, D.C.

“It’s so important to keep in mind this extraordinary time during which small-business owners were making their ballot decisions,” said Tony Gagliardi, NFIB’s Colorado state director. “Those who survived the pandemic were then whacked with supply chain disruptions, inflation, and an inability to find employees to fill job openings. The last thing they want to hear is someone’s idea for a new tax or compliance requirement.”

The 2022 Colorado state member ballot asked four questions:

Should employers be required to provide work schedules at least two weeks in advance and give “predictability pay” if a work shift is changed or canceled without notice?
Yes 3%
No 92%
Und. 4%

Should Colorado impose a sales tax on services?
Yes 1%
No 98%
Und. 1%

Should customers and repair shops be able to access the necessary information from manufacturers to repair their products?
Yes 73%
No 14%
Und. 13%

Should the legislature revise its laws to reduce the expanded gubernatorial powers in declared emergencies?
Yes 67%
No 22%
Und. 68%
