McSally Meets with NFIB Members at Their Virtual Fly-In

Date: August 21, 2020

Senator provided vital updates on latest congressional actions

In a normal year, NFIB members from across the nation would have flown to Washington for NFIB’s annual Fly-In event and fanned out throughout the nation’s capital to visit their state’s House and Senate members, but the coronavirus necessitated a different strategy, forcing the Fly-In to be a virtual one.

“This annual event NFIB arranges is a hugely popular one, giving as it does an opportunity for small-business owners to meet directly with their state’s congressional representatives right in each elected official’s office,” said Chad Heinrich, NFIB Arizona state director. “We had wondered if having to have it virtually this year would diminish it in any way, and I’m delighted to report not one bit. I thank Senator McSally for making the time to meet with our members and for her insightful contributions in our meeting with her.”

During the meeting, held through Microsoft Teams, the senator addressed urgent issues such as additional PPP funding for businesses in need of extra financial support, unemployment compensation, and whether Congress would step in and prohibit forgiven expenses from being taxed.

Said Senator McSally about the August 20 meeting, “Since this pandemic began, I’ve been working with Arizona small business owners to ensure they could survive and keep their employees on payroll by fighting for the Paycheck Protection Program which provided $8.6 billion in relief to over 80,000 Arizona small businesses, and saved more than 1 million jobs. NFIB Arizona members have been tirelessly working and innovating throughout this crisis. It was good to receive an update from them today about the additional support they need as we work to defeat this pandemic and allow people to return to work safely and sensibly.”
